Should your situation change and you only use your car for personal use, you should contact your insurance provider to update your policy. If you’re experiencing financial difficulty in these uncertain times, you could contact your insurer to inquire about any financial hardship assistance programs you could potentially access.
Should you be working from home or your situation has changed, you should let your insurer know. Any change in your circumstances should be discussed with your insurer, as it could impact your premiums.

You can, but you’ll leave yourself open to out of pocket costs if any of your insured vehicles are stolen, damaged, etc. Review your coverage with your insurer to make sure your current cover meets your needs.

If you’re a ‘low-kilometre’ driver (e.g. under 15,000km per year), you may be able to find a better solution with your insurer or through our comparison service. However, this may only benefit you if you will be driving less for the duration of your policy, which is typically 12 months.
For a range of options on how you might tailor and save on your policy, talk to your insurer. Otherwise, if money is tight, we can help you review a range of products through our comparison service.

No. Most insurers won’t allow you to ‘pause’ your car insurance, rather, you are able to cancel it. This is entirely up to you, although we recommend you talk to your insurer about this decision. Car insurance can cover theft, storm damage, someone hitting your car, and any other number of events that might leave you out of pocket.
However, given the unprecedented nature of COVID-19, it could be worth contacting your insurance provider to discuss your options.

For now, you can still call up roadside assistance. Particular providers are still operating inside Australia, to our knowledge, although they may be employing different measures to keep their staff safe. For example, if you were to call up today, you may be asked if you’ve been unwell, travelled overseas, or had recently tested positive for COVID-19.
Things are changing daily, however. If you’re concerned about this, contact your roadside assistance provider for more information.
