About Ozicare

Ozicare was established in Australia in 2001 and operates under Auto & General Insurance Company, known for being an innovative leader in Australia. The company also offers smart and flexible insurance solutions for travel, car, life and home and contents.

What does Ozicare travel insurance cover?

Comprehensive travel insurance. This top-level policy offers the broadest range of benefits, including unlimited coverage for overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, cancellation and amendment fees (if you need to cut your trip short unexpectedly), and more. It also provides cover with extensive benefit limits for:

  • travel delays,
  • loss of luggage and personal effects,
  • loss of travel documents, credit cards and travellers cheques,
  • theft of cash,`
  • additional expenses (if you have to cut your trip short due to an emergency),
  • rental car excess,
  • resumption of journey and subsequent alternative transport costs,
  • hijacking,
  • extra kennel or cattery fees if your trip home is delayed by more than 24 hours,
  • personal liability,
  • loss of income,
  • permanent disability, and
  • accidental death.

Annual multi-trip insurance. This is a comprehensive travel insurance (with the same benefits as above) for any number of trips (for a maximum 30-day duration each) you take within 12 months.

Essential travel insurance. This mid-tier Ozicare policy offers essential protection for your travels. This includes unlimited financial protection for overseas emergency medical and hospital costs. It also includes cover (up to a specified limit) for:

  • travel delays,
  • loss of luggage and personal belongings,
  • loss of travel documents, credit cards and travellers cheques,
  • additional expenses as a result of cutting your trip short because of an emergency,
  • theft of cash,
  • rental car excess,
  • alternative transport costs, and
  • personal liability.

Last Minute travel insurance. As the name suggests, this is a basic policy that offers unlimited coverage for overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses and limited cover for additional expenses, loss of luggage/personal effects and personal liability.

Domestic travel insurance. This policy is for travel within Australia and provides coverage (up to a specified limit) for:

  • cancellation and amendment fees,
  • travel delays,
  • additional expenses from cutting your trip short (for emergency only),
  • loss of luggage and personal effects,
  • rental vehicle excess,
  • alternative transport expenses,
  • personal liability,
  • permanent disability, and
  • accidental death.

Domestic travel insurance policies don’t generally provide cover for medical and hospital expenses, as Australians have access to Medicare or can rely on their private health insurance to cover some, or all, of their healthcare costs.

Optional add-ons

You can add Snow Sports Cover to your travel insurance for extra protection against insured events on the slopes. This may include injuries from snow sports, piste closures, avalanches, loss of hire ski equipment and more.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ozicare travel insurance worth it?

Ozicare offers affordable and flexible travel insurance options for every type of traveller. Travel cover is as important as taking your passport with you on your trip. It’s a financial safeguard against a range of unforeseen events that can derail your trip and put a dent in your budget, like if you needed emergency medical treatment overseas or lost your luggage in transit.

How do I make a claim with Ozicare?

You can contact Ozicare over the phone at any time to request a claim form, or lodge a claim online. You can also contact Ozicare for any enquiries relating to claim entitlements under your policy. If you make a claim you may be asked to provide the following:

  • proof of ownership and of any claimable events (i.e. receipts, medical and police reports) translated in English,
  • your Insurance Certificate,
  • any other additional information relating to your loss or expenses.

You should notify Ozicare as soon as possible for any overseas medical emergency claims, while other claims can be lodged within 30 days of your return to Australia.

Do I have to pay an excess?

A standard excess applies to most of Ozicare’s travel insurance policies. Ultimately, your total excess payable will depend on your level of cover and the benefit(s) you’re claiming. You can opt to pay a higher premium to reduce or completely remove any excess on your claims. Your total excess owed should appear on your Certificate of Insurance (COI).

Who do I contact for emergency assistance while overseas?

In case of a medical emergency or if you need urgent assistance, you can call Ozicare’s 24/7 emergency assistance helpline.

You may be asked to provide the following information:

  • your policy number,
  • a contact number,
  • your current location,
  • the nature of your emergency, and
  • the details of the incident.
