Endless dining choices

The Southbank waterfront esplanade comes alive at night as the river reflects the city lights above it. For a special night out, you will have endless dining choices from eateries, cafes and high-class restaurants, as well as bars and nightclubs to dance the night away in.

Theatre and music

The cultural experience doesn’t end there. The Malthouse Theatre – a brewery converted to an art space, hosts plays and performances throughout the year. The red brick exterior belies the performance space within. During intermission, you can refresh yourself at the Coopers Malthouse Bar.

If you’re a fan of music, be it classical, baroque or jazz – then you might wish to time your visit to catch a performance at the Melbourne Recital Centre. It’s hard to miss with a unique beehive-style glass wall covering multiple storeys of the building.

National Gallery of Victoria Ceiling

National Gallery of Victoria

Southbank is also home to the National Gallery of Victoria, which houses 70,000 works of art from classical to modern periods, including Pablo Picasso’s Weeping Woman and works from Albrecht Durer. The art gallery also features plenty of excitement for children, with hands-on activities to encourage a growing love of art.

Crown Casino

Perhaps Southbank’s crowning jewel is the Crown Casino. This casino offers a range of entertainment for those after a show or willing to try their luck. Plus, there are plenty of unique fine dining restaurants to try; such as Bistro Guillaume, The Conservatory, Koko, Nobu, Rockpool Bar & Grill, and plenty more. The Crown’s party piece is the Gas Brigades Fire Show.

On select nights throughout the year, eight rectangular pillars along the Yarra River shoot some of the world’s biggest fireballs into the air. Be sure to get a seat along the riverfront to catch the spectacular Gas Brigades Fire Show. The Casino itself might be an option for your stay, as it provides some of Melbourne’s most glamorous Southbank accommodation.
